Natural Migraine Cure

If you or a loved one suffers from migraines, you know the side effects can be brutal.

CoQ10 – Researchers from the Head and Pain Unit at the University Hospital Zurich discovered in a clinical trial that 300 mg of CoQ10 daily cuts migraine frequency by half.1

But it’s important to take the right form of CoQ10.

A high-potency, reduced form of CoQ10 makes it convenient to take. Because it contains ubiquinol, it’s eight times more absorbable than other forms of CoQ10. So, 50 mg is equal to 400 mg of regular CoQ10.

That means you can take just two capsules instead of the 10 capsules of regular CoQ10 to get the therapeutic levels you need to fight migraines.

Riboflavin(vitamin B2) – High doses of riboflavin increase the energy production in the brain cells which reduce headaches. One study showed that 400 mg of riboflavin a day cut the frequency of migraines in half.2

You can get riboflavin from many foods. But you’d have to eat enormous amounts of liver, nuts, dairy, eggs, seafood, and greens to get to 400 mg a day.

So, while you should still eat these foods, I also recommend you supplement your diet with riboflavin.

Magnesium – One of magnesium’s main jobs is to tone the blood vessels. Scientists have linked certain types of migraines to problems with blood flow and pressure in the vessels. So, if you have low magnesium levels, you could benefit from taking magnesium supplements.3

Studies have shown that 600 mg a day reduces migraines by up to 41 percent.4

Look for magnesium that is bound to citrate, malate, or aspartate. Take it with vitamin B6. It will increase the amount of magnesium that accumulates in your cells. You can find magnesium and B6 at your local health food store.

Ginger the natural painkiller


Today I want to recommend to you a painkiller that’s not scary at all. In fact, you probably don’t have to look beyond your kitchen cabinet to find it.

I’m talking about ginger.

For centuries it’s been used throughout Asia to treat joint pain, colds, and even indigestion. 
It can reduce pain in the muscles and joints by as much as 25%.1

And taking raw and cooked ginger daily can be an effective pain reliever – even for inflammatory conditions like osteoarthritis.

That’s because inflammation is the root cause all kinds of problems – from arthritis to back pain to muscle aches.

Ginger contains 12 different compounds that fight inflammation. Some block the Cox-2 enzyme which triggers it. Some lower pain receptor and nerve-ending sensitivity. Together they work almost the same as anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and aspirin.

So, if you want to cut back on painkillers and avoid the harmful side effects, supplement your diet with ginger.

Here are some ways to get your daily doses:

Stir fry food with it: It’ll add an invigorating taste to any meat and vegetable dish. Sprinkle some grated ginger on top for even more great flavor.

Supplement: Most pharmacies or health food stores sell ginger powder in pills or capsules. Look for an extract with 5% gingerols.

Use a ginger compress on painful areas: It’ll stimulate blood flow and ease achy joints.

Drink ginger tea: It’s cheap. It’s easy. It tastes great. And it heals. Here’s a recipe I use:
Ingredients

water, 4 cups

2-inch piece of fresh ginger root

optional: honey and lemon slice

 

Peel the ginger root and slice it into thin slices. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Once it’s boiling, add the ginger. Then cover it, reduce the heat, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes. Strain the tea. Add honey and lemon to taste.

Does gaining weight run in the family?

Have you resigned yourself to gaining weight because it “runs in the family”?

Bad genetics doesn’t have to catch up with you. You can change your genes simply by making a few adjustments to your diet.1

When you eat certain foods, nutrients release hormones that switch your genes on and off. And the nutrients in low-glycemic foods turn off genes that lead to weight gain and diseases that may follow.

We found this out when we studied the response to the glycemic index (GI) in people who have metabolic syndrome.

The glycemic index measures how fast your food breaks down to sugar in your bloodstream. Metabolic syndrome is a medical term for overweight people whose cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugar levels are high. It puts them at risk for diabetes, heart attack, and stroke.

In the study, one group ate foods with a low GI rating of 40-60. The other group ate foods with a high GI rating of about 80-100.

In just 12 weeks, the high GI diet increased the activity of 62 genes that lead to disease. These genes activate your stress response. It puts your body in a constant “fight or flight” mode. This lowers your immunity and causes damage to your cells.

But the low GI diet decreased the activity of 71 disease-causing genes, including hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL).2

High HSL is what causes fat to settle around your middle.3 But when scientists studied animals bred to have little HSL, they found the animals became resistant to obesity, whether it was hereditary or from diet.4

I suggest you eat a wide variety of low GI foods. Follow the example handed down by our primal ancestors. Choose foods you could have gotten either by hunting or gathering:

Eat fresh, low-glycemic foods. Look for grass-fed beef. Fish. Beans. Plenty of above-ground and green, leafy vegetables. Onions and garlic. Berries, nuts, and seeds. Fresh fruits.

Avoid high-glycemic foods. These include white potatoes, most grains such as rice, corn, and wheat, cereals, cereal bars, and low-fiber or sweetened foods.

Shun pre-packaged items and fast food. These products contain high-glycemic ingredients and artificial chemicals. Avoid sweetened foods. Diet foods. Foods like these turn on the genes responsible for weight gain and disease.5

Finally, if you have a family history of disease, you may want to supplement with additional nutrients:

  • Pick up a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement that contains high levels of B vitamins such as B12 and folate. These two vitamins directly contribute to DNA health. I recommend at least 100 mcg per day of vitamin B12 and 800 mcg of folate.
  • MSM is a great detoxifier known to keep your DNA healthy. You can take 900 mg up to 3 times a day.
  • SAMe is a nutrient you won’t find in food, but you can buy supplements at your local vitamin shop. This is one of the best-known for DNA protection. Take 200-1,600 mg daily.

Do You have the Symptoms of Irregular PH Balance?

It’s no secret that your body is made up of about 70 percent water. Every one of your 100 trillion cells is filled with water. And every other chemical in your body—from the stomach acid you need to digest food… to the blood that carries oxygen and nutrients to the cells of all your organs—either contain water or are suspended in water.

Therefore, for you to be healthy, that water needs to have a healthy pH balance—even out into the tissues of the organs where metabolism actually occurs. The letters “pH” mean “potential of hydrogen” and simply measure how acidic or alkaline your body is on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 14.


Your body will work hard to keep your organ tissues in pH balance. You will achieve optimum health much easier when your organ tissues stay in a slightly alkaline environment—about 7.0 to 7.5 as measured by saliva.


Blood pH is very different, however. It remains in the 7.34 to 7.38 pH range normally. And urine is normally acidic at a pH of 6.2 to 6.8 upon your first morning bathroom visit. What some people don’t realize is that saliva is a fairly good reflection of tissue pH which can vary, while blood pH will be one of the very last things to change in a sick person.


Is an acidic pH balance behind YOUR symptoms? Take this simple test:
  1. Do you suffer from high blood pressure, a failing heart or other heart problems?
  2. Do your joints feel stiff, inflamed and painful or do you suffer from bone loss?
  3. Has a doctor told you that your blood sugar levels are too high or too low?
  4. Are you finding it more difficult to get a good night’s sleep?
  5. Do you suffer from constant fatigue or energy crashes after meals?
  6. Do you frequently endure cramping, constipation, heartburn or other digestive problems?
  7. Do you sometimes feel depressed, negative and cranky?
  8. Have you noticed that your ability to solve problems or to remember details is lacking?
  9. Do you sometimes suffer from shortness of breath or other lung problems?
  10. Do you experience pain, numbness or tingling in your hands, legs or feet?
